The Herb Farm Restaurant

Fredericksburg Herb Farm is an herb farm (duh!), and  also boasts of a bed and breakfast and a restaurant. The restaurant is a historic rock house built in the 1890’s. The chef  prepares the menu using fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs grown in the premises. With that, it became our instant favorite, specially when we need to detox from all the German food (I have not featured any of those yet, I have to pace myself because there’s a LOT of great ones here)

Like almost every place here, this has a homey vibe going on.

Had to take a picture of this electric snow-globe-but-not. It changes color, really cool.

Menu changes by the season. I was going to get the Spinach and Mushroom lasagna, but they ran out (WTH, at 11:30 noon??? FAIL) It infuriated me because I thought it must be that good, and I just missed it…So I gave the menu a once-over and found this jewel. It smelled so good! I can always make any old lasagna. I have no idea how to smoke a duck and/or potatoes THEN smack them all into a pizza and make it turn out this way.  So, this order was a total win, you can tell from my smile.

He’s been ordering that from the last 82 times we’ve been here. He is “that” kind of person. And that is why he has no food blog….hehehe. In his defense, that salad is really good.

Rosemary Pound Cake. I have yet to be comfortable adding herbs to desserts. This is an inspiration.

Reminiscing at Peach Tree

We “discovered” Fredericksburg two years ago. From spending weekend get-aways, we eventually bought our dream vacation home. It’s but natural that we soon had our own “spots”. Peach Tree Restaurant was  our spot when we were house-hunting. We would drive from Houston at the break of dawn, meet with our realtor, Darlene, then house-hunt all day long and break for lunch before 2pm (this joint closes at 2 on the dot!). This went on for God knows how long till we found our Chateau d’Napoli or what fondly call now as Vivi (short for villa). Yes, we name our pets, houses, cars, watches, jewelry,  and all things meaningful and precious to us. The Beast (house in Sienna Plantation, because of its size, cost,  and everything related to it that is almost always beastly) and Vivi, French villa in FBG. Our cars, Gigi, Turbey and Caddie.

Anyhoo….I digress…We had brunch here after a 4-hour drive from Houston. As always, we enjoyed every morsel.

When we were house-hunting, I always needed one (or two!) of this awesome sangria. Mortgage crunching takes a lot from me

There's always room fro dessert. Specially if its bread pudding with rum and bourbon sauce. Bread, rum, bourbon---what's not to like. Oh, note the ceramic cow holding the creamer. That's D's creative genius, making it look like it's tasting the coffee.

Everyone looks so much more relaxed after a second glass of sangria...
I always manage to look so much more relaxed after a second glass of sangria…

It’s been two years and we love each and every visit. I guess because we are creatures of comfort. And we find comfort in all that is familiar and nice. Like I said before, there are so many of these places in Fredericksburg that I would feature once in awhile (ok, actually a whole damn lot!). Should fortune favor you and you find yourself in this part of Texas, I am sure you would fall in love with it too.
